Password Hints and Tips
Passwords must be 5 to 8 characters in length.
The new password should be available on the next business day.
The following are recommendations for creating passwords:
- Use an Alphanumeric sequence (combination of Letters and Numbers).
- Use at least one special character (=, +, /, \, etc.) but not at the beginning of the password.
- No cyclic passwords (using the same password series over and over, or using a base part of the password and changing part of it - such as Atlanta1, Atlanta2, Atlanta 3, etc).
- Passwords should be kept confidential and NEVER written down or shared.
- Passwords should not be trivial, predictable or obvious. (Birthday, car license plate, address, etc.)
- Your password should not be the same as your User/LogonID.
- If you have access to a number of systems that require the entry of a password, try not to use the same password for all systems.
A good password is easy to remember, but hard for someone else to guess. There are a variety of techniques you can use to choose secure passwords. The following are examples.
A word with one or more digits embedded in it.
- Example: Mon57Day\ (a pronounceable word with 2 digits in the middle and a special Character following)
An Acronym based on a nursery rhyme, favorite song or movie, or a sentence.
- Example: Ttls-HIwwya? (Twinkle twinkle little star - How I wonder where you are?
- Example: #1Ss=Gomm(RC) Number one (#1) State song = (equals) Georgia on my mind (Ray Charles).
Make up a nonsense sentence, using a word with a numeric imbedded in it.
- Example: ImNanLF8R? ( I am in an elevator?)
